Chicago, IL: Male Sugar Glider Needs a New Home!

UPDATED March 1, 2009:
Too often, in hard times, it is sometimes to see the good in the world, and we have to look long hard and deep for some glimmer of hope that there is still goodness in the world and in people. This is especially true within the glider community, at times, and sometimes, we forget why we choose to remain involved.

Not that long ago, there was a glider who needed rehomed in the Chicago area, and I was called upon for assistance. Let this update serve as a reaffirmation - to those who doubt from time to time -that "the system works" - IF we remain true to our primary objective, which is to help any glider in need.

Here's a follow-up e-mail from "Rocky's mom" (the Chicago glider who I helped place just a few months ago):

"I just wanted to send you a quick e-mail to let you know that Rocky has his first vet appointment this weekend. He's not looking forward to it!!

Otherwise he's doing just great. His hours have gotten a little bit better. He only wakes up during the day for short periods. I think "Chubby" is just looking for snacks. He's also slowly getting to a more healthy weight thanks to a good diet. Of course his new stealth wheel could be responsible too. He has figured out how to shift his body weight so he can spin the wheel without running. Exercise is exercise I guess lol.

I'll send an update after his check up. Thanks again for all your help (and all you do!)"

My inbox is a mess, and I am sorry I have failed to provide a more timely update, but I just wanted everyone to see that "the system DOES work"!

There are those, within the community, who may begin to lose their faith in "the system" from time to time. I post this here, so that there is evidence that what we do for gliders in need DOES make a difference. Never give up.

Of course, I have removed the name of the adoptive home, for privacy, but as you can see, good quality homes ARE out there. We just need to be vigilant in helping those in need to make the proper connections.

UPDATE, 12/28/2008:
"Rocky" finally has found his new home! What a wonderful success story for this glider, his former family, and his new family! I received an update, and Rocky is settling into his new home and adapting very well.

His new owner sent me an e-mail, and she has said what a gentle little fellow he is - that he hasn't even "crabbed" (for those who do not own a glider - or ever heard this sound - it's strange little noise a glider makes when he is feeling threatened, insecure, or frightened). If you can imagine someone sticking an ice pick into an electric pencil sharpener, you'll have some understanding of what a "crabbing glider" sounds like.

CONGRATULATIONS to Rocky and his new owner! I hope you have a very Happy New Year, indeed!

UPDATE, 12/22/2008:

The male sugar glider in Chicago is now pending placement. He should have a new home this weekend!

UPDATE:
On the way home from work last night, about 4:20, I got a call from the lady in Chicago who is rehoming a male sugar glider (full details can be found here). However, due to the bad weather there, she said she did not feel comfortable heading out on a long trip in that stuff (she's from the southern California area). I totally understand that, so this pickup has been re-scheduled - UNLESS a suitable home can be found for this little guy in, or around, the Chicago area - or even in that general region.

Meanwhile, if you know of a suitable prospect, please share the Rescue Application link with them.

To download a copy of the Rescue Application, click the small "down arrow" on the far right of your screen once the page loads, and then return the completed application to me.

Thanks!
