Dog Daze

The weather here has been incredible. We've had nasty thunderstorms that knocked out the power and flooded the area last week, and yesterday we had a heat wave of over 100 degrees. You know those kind of days: Hot. Humid. Muggy. The kind of day that makes a person downright miserable.

My boy, Fang, has just the perfect solution to dealing with days like that! Fang is about two years old, and he is still just a pup. He was full of energy, well, until the heat hit. We need to brush him out since he's shedding his winter coat.

The only thing to have really benefited from the heavy storms was John's Christmas Cactus. This thing shot up overnight after the flooding!

Meanwhile, it took John the whole day yesterday to rake, shovel, and pack all of the rocks and debris out of our yard. He takes great pride in a nice lawn, and the storms really messed everything up. I fully realize that what we had was not even a drop in the bucket compared to what those in the deep south face, all too often, but after this last storm, I was about ready to pack up and move. I don't know how those down in Louisiana, Florida, and Texas stay the course.

All of this debris was scattered all over our yard (and we have a large yard that takes about four hours to mow from start to finish). When the rains came, all we could see was water all around our house. We were an island unto ourselves last week, and we couldn't see ground anywhere. Gosh, that's redundant, but then again, so was all of that water.

All of the grounding we'd laid out and spread for the "camper thing" to rest upon has washed away, and somehow, we're going to have to shore that back up. In hindsight, I see that was not the best place to have located my little hideout, which serves as a craft area, an office, and a guest bedroom. I'm surprised it is still standing and didn't float on down the road. The best way to have seated this "camper thing" would have been to have poured concrete runners the length of the unit and then tied it down, but with the baby coming as quickly as she did, there was no time, or money, to go that route.

There's much work to be done this summer. Much.

Lastly, as we were working on trying to get things back in order yesterday, Sprout turned into a Dragon Queen. There has never been so much screaming, roaring, growling, and howling (well, as least since the last werewolf convention, of which she surely is the pack leader). As it turns out, I see that my sweet little girl (and she is that - normally) has just cut two more new teeth. I forget what they are called, but they are located right before the molars, and they have the double edges. Of course, she got hers in two at a time. Miss Sprout now has 10 teeth, and she uses them.

Ouch.

Does anyone have any body armor for sale?
